A BMW M4 driver arrested after he reached 204km/h in KwaZulu-Natal, sped away from traffic officers and left his identification document behind.

The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Transport released the details on Monday.

Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTI) officers from Park Rynie stopped the motorist. He fled the scene.

Officers later traced him to a golf estate on the South Coast using high-resolution imaging, real-time data analytics and an AI-driven tracking system.

The driver had removed his vehicle’s registration plates. Another person moved the BMW M4 while he hid inside a villa.

MEC Duma Praises RTI Team’s Use of Technology

MEC for Transport and Human Settlements Siboniso Duma commended the RTI team.

“Thanks to the artificial intelligence and cutting-edge technology, which enabled the RTI to trace his movements to a Golf Estate on the South Coast,” Duma said.
“The high-resolution imaging and real-time data analytics revealed how he removed the registration number plates from his vehicle.”

Duma added that officers located the motorist hiding in the estate’s villa.

The driver, who lives in a Durban suburb, now faces charges of speeding, reckless driving and evading traffic police.

He made a brief appearance in Scottburgh Magistrates Court and received R3 000 bail. His next court date is 25 February 2026.
