Two Cape Town restaurants have made major gains in one of the world’s leading restaurant rankings.

Fyn and Salsify at the Roundhouse have both climbed 17 places on The World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2026 extended list.

Fyn is now ranked at number 65, while Salsify at the Roundhouse sits at number 71. They are the only South African restaurants included in this year’s 51 to 100 ranking.

The extended list was announced on 21 October, ahead of the main awards ceremony in Lima, Peru, on 4 November.

Both restaurants climb 17 places

The jump marks a significant improvement for both Cape Town restaurants, with each gaining 17 positions compared to their previous rankings.

The 51 to 100 list includes restaurants from six continents, 25 territories and 36 cities.

However, the full picture is still to come. Restaurants placed in the top 50 have not yet been revealed and will be announced during the main ceremony in Lima.

The extended ranking also includes restaurants from major food destinations such as Shanghai, São Paulo, Singapore, Seoul, Bangkok, London and Dubai.

Shanghai’s Ling Long was the highest new entry on the extended list at number 53.

How the global restaurant ranking works

According to CapeTownEtc, the 51 to 100 list is based on votes from more than 1,100 international restaurant industry experts.

The voting group includes chefs, food writers and other culinary specialists and is divided across 28 regions.

At least 25% of the academy’s members are refreshed each year, while the organisation maintains a 50/50 gender balance. Deloitte acts as the awards’ independent adjudication partner.

For Cape Town, the rise of Fyn and Salsify at the Roundhouse gives the city two representatives among the restaurants ranked just outside the global top 50.

The complete 2026 ranking will be revealed at the Teatro Municipal de Lima on 4 November, when the world’s top 50 restaurants are announced.
