Cape Town has welcomed a new ultra-luxury hotel, with Marriott International officially opening The Cape Town EDITION at the V&A Waterfront.

Situated at Quay 7, the hotel overlooks the city's superyacht marina and offers views of Table Mountain and the surrounding ocean.

According to a report by BusinessTech, the development brings another international luxury hotel brand to South Africa, adding to Cape Town's growing hospitality offering.

Inside the new luxury hotel

he Cape Town EDITION features 142 rooms and suites, alongside restaurants, wellness facilities and spaces for private events.

Designed by architecture firm Neri&Hu in collaboration with local architects, the building takes inspiration from the warehouse structures that previously occupied the area.

Its central feature is a large cylindrical opening known as the drum, while African artworks and sculptures form part of the interior design.

The hotel's signature restaurant, Shale, will serve seasonal dishes using local produce and ingredients inspired by Cape Town's surrounding wine regions.

The dining experience is overseen by Executive Chef Phil Carmichael in partnership with South African chef George Hunter.

Spa, rooftop pool and luxury facilities

Guests will have access to a spa situated below sea level, featuring five treatment rooms, a couples suite, a sauna and a steam room.

Additional facilities include a heated rooftop swimming pool, a 24-hour gym and wellness activities such as yoga and breathwork sessions.

The hotel also offers meeting and event facilities, including a ballroom accommodating up to 200 people.

A boost for Cape Town tourism

The opening expands EDITION's international hotel portfolio, which includes properties in Barcelona, Madrid, Rome and New York.

V&A Waterfront CEO Graham Wood described the development as an important milestone, highlighting its significance for tourism and investment in Cape Town.

The launch comes as tourism continues to play a major role in the city's economy.

According to figures reported by BusinessTech, tourism generated approximately R24.5 billion in direct spending during 2025 and supported more than 106,000 jobs.

International visitors accounted for around R19 billion of that spending, although domestic tourism spending declined by 32% during the year.

The Cape Town EDITION's opening adds another luxury accommodation option to the Waterfront, strengthening the area's appeal to international visitors.
