The National Consumer Commission has announced a recall of 253 Hyundai Tucson NX4 vehicles sold in South Africa over a possible side-impact airbag sensor defect.
According to the NCC, Hyundai Automotive South Africa notified the regulator that some affected vehicles may have been fitted with side-impact airbag sensors that do not meet the correct specifications.
The vehicles were made available for sale nationally during 2025.
Owners Must Book an Inspection
The NCC has urged affected owners to take their vehicles to an authorised Hyundai dealership for inspection.
According to the regulator, technicians will use Hyundai diagnostic equipment to check whether the correct side-impact airbag sensor has been installed.
If remedial work is required, it will be carried out at no cost to the owner.
The NCC has also provided a dedicated product recall email address for consumers who have questions about the campaign.
Tucson Has Faced Another Recall This Year
The airbag sensor campaign is not the first Hyundai Tucson recall announced in South Africa in 2026.
In June, the NCC recalled 337 Hyundai Tucson NX4 N-Line vehicles sold in 2023 over an issue involving the Forward Collision Avoidance system.
The regulator said some affected vehicles could experience unintended emergency braking because of sensitive FCA operation, potentially increasing the risk of a collision.
Owners of those vehicles were instructed to arrange a free front-camera software update at a Hyundai dealership.
What Affected Owners Should Do
Motorists who own a Hyundai Tucson NX4 sold during 2025 should contact their nearest authorised Hyundai dealership to establish whether their vehicle forms part of the latest recall.
The NCC says the inspection will determine whether the correct side-impact airbag sensor is fitted.
Any required corrective work will be completed free of charge.
