A personal trainer who worked at Virgin Active in Constantia has been linked to an international alert after he was identified as a man wanted in Romania on drug trafficking allegations.
Trainer Identified at Constantia Branch
The man, named as Stan Stamenov, was listed on an online platform used to advertise personal trainers at the Constantia club. A framed photo and profile details were also displayed inside the gym.
He was described in the report as a Bulgarian national and a “senior personal trainer” linked to the Constantia branch.
Wanted in Romania on Drug Trafficking Allegations
The reporting states Stamenov is wanted by Romanian authorities for “trafficking in drugs” and is flagged by the global police organisation Interpol.
Interpol explains that a Red Notice is a request to law enforcement worldwide to locate and provisionally arrest a person pending extradition or similar legal action. It also notes that a Red Notice is not an international arrest warrant and countries apply their own laws when deciding whether to arrest someone.
Virgin Active Suspends Trainer
Virgin Active suspended Stamenov after questions were put to the company, with the report saying it had established he was likely the same person flagged as wanted in Romania.
Jacqui Walter, Virgin Active’s head of customer service, was quoted as saying the company applies due diligence processes to personal trainers, including contractual compliance and supporting documentation.
The company is reportedly working with relevant authorities to verify the claims and to confirm whether Stamenov is the person named in the Interpol notice.
Link to 2023 Constantia Killings
The reports also connect Stamenov to Krasimir Kamenov, a Bulgarian who was among four people killed in Constantia in May 2023. Stamenov was said to have been Kamenov’s bodyguard.
