Jaguar has unveiled the Type 01, its new all-electric four-door grand tourer and the first production model in a new generation of vehicles for the British brand.
Officially revealed in New York on 6 October, Jaguar describes the Type 01 as the most powerful, aerodynamic and technologically advanced Jaguar it has produced. It is designed, engineered and built in the UK.
The car is underpinned by Jaguar Electric Architecture, a dedicated EV platform developed specifically for the brand’s new electric models.
More than 1,000PS on tap
Jaguar says the Type 01 produces up to 1,030PS, equivalent to roughly 757kW, and can accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in about 3.2 seconds.
TimesLIVE reports that the three-motor system produces 1,365Nm and uses intelligent torque vectoring to distribute power between the wheels. It also has a 50:50 weight distribution.
Jaguar says the Type 01 is also its most aerodynamic road car yet, while TimesLIVE puts its drag coefficient at 0.23 Cd.
644km EPA range
Jaguar officially quotes an EPA range of 400 miles, which works out to about 644km.
The Type 01 uses an 850V electrical architecture and can recover up to 200 miles, around 322km, of range in 13 minutes when using a 350kW charger.
TimesLIVE reports that the car uses an 118kWh battery and is expected to achieve up to 720km under the WLTP testing cycle.
New design direction for Jaguar
Inside, Jaguar says the cabin is divided into four individual spaces by a central spine running through the interior. The company says digital interfaces have been integrated into the architecture rather than dominating the cabin.
TimesLIVE reports that the interior includes a 24-inch OLED driver display, a separate 7-inch touchscreen and sensory audio seats.
Orders open in 2027
Jaguar says orders for the Type 01 will open in early 2027, with first customer deliveries expected in the second half of the year.
Jaguar South Africa is already promoting the Type 01 on its local website, but no official local price or launch date has been announced.
TimesLIVE reports that UK pricing is expected to start at £129,950, while South African availability remains unconfirmed.
