Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit will host the Michelin 24H Series in January 2027, marking the endurance championship’s first event on African soil.
Organiser Creventic confirmed the race will take place from 8 to 10 January 2027 after its traditional Dubai event was moved because of uncertainty in the Gulf region and concerns over logistics and transport planning.
Kyalami chosen for historic African debut
Creventic said Kyalami’s motorsport history, modern facilities and experienced organising team made the Midrand circuit a strong fit for the event.
The 4.52km FIA Grade 2 circuit underwent a major redevelopment around a decade ago and now features 40 modern pit garages and updated paddock facilities.
Kyalami CEO Toby Venter said the race continues the circuit’s record of hosting major international motorsport and will become the first international 24-hour event held in South Africa.
Dubai race moved amid regional uncertainty
Creventic said moving the long-running 24 Hours of Dubai was a difficult decision because the event has been central to the organisation for around 20 years.
The company cited ongoing uncertainty in the Gulf region and its effect on logistics costs and reliable transport planning.
The January 2027 event will instead be staged at Kyalami, while previously announced races in Abu Dhabi have been postponed to the 2027/28 campaign.
International endurance racing returns
The race will bring major international endurance competition back to Kyalami for the first time since 2023.
The Michelin 24H Series features GT and touring cars, with classes including GT3, GTX, Porsche 911 GT3 Cup, GT4 and TCE machinery.
Teams and drivers will also have access to three track days before the main event.
Creventic says registrations are already open, while the championship’s official calendar lists the Kyalami event as the opening race of its 2027 schedule.
For Kyalami, the event adds another major international race to a circuit already deeply linked to South Africa’s motorsport history.
