A 69-year-old doctor has been arrested in KwaZulu-Natal after four female patients accused him of sexual assault at a hospital in Madadeni.

Doctor Arrested at Work

KwaZulu-Natal police said the medical practitioner was arrested at his workplace in Madadeni on Tuesday, 28 April.

The arrest was carried out by detectives from the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences unit, working with Madadeni police officers.

Police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda said the alleged incidents took place between August 2025 and April 2026.

The doctor is accused of sexually assaulting four female patients during that period.

Serious Allegations Against Doctor

According to Netshiunda, the doctor allegedly touched the patients inappropriately on their breasts and private parts.

Police further allege that some of the victims were forced to perform sexual acts on him.

The claims have now formed part of a police investigation after the victims opened cases.

The suspect has not yet been convicted and the allegations will still need to be tested in court.

Whistle-Blower Alerted Police

Police said the case came to light after the victims complained to a whistle-blower.

The whistle-blower then anonymously reported the matter to police.

Netshiunda said detectives acted on the tip-offs. After the victims opened cases, investigations continued and led to the doctor’s arrest.

Police have also indicated that more charges could follow if other alleged victims come forward, report sexual assault and open cases.

Court Appearance Expected

The doctor is expected to appear in the Madadeni Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 30 April.

The case comes as South Africa continues to face deep concerns around gender-based violence and sexual offences.

For patients and families, the allegations are especially disturbing because they involve a medical setting, where people are meant to feel safe and protected.

Police are expected to continue investigating the matter as the court process gets underway.
