Toyota South Africa has confirmed that the new Hilux single-cab models will launch locally towards the end of 2026.

The confirmation means the ninth-generation single-cab line-up will join the new Hilux double-cab and Xtra Cab models already announced for the market.

For now, the eighth-generation Hilux single-cab derivatives remain on sale in South Africa.

The single-cab Hilux remains an important model for farmers, small businesses, fleet operators and buyers who need a tough workhorse rather than a lifestyle bakkie.

Toyota has not yet confirmed the full local range or all engine options for the new single-cab line-up.

Diesel engine expected

Although Toyota SA has not officially confirmed engine details, the pictured model carries 2.8GD-6 badging.

That suggests the new single-cab range is likely to use Toyota’s trusted 2.8-litre four-cylinder turbodiesel engine, at least at launch.

The same engine is expected to feature in the broader new Hilux range.

A 4x4 badge is also visible on the tailgate of the pictured vehicle.

This indicates that the new single-cab will again be offered with a part-time 4x4 drivetrain.

2.4GD-6 also likely

The 2.4GD-6 engine could also be added to the new single-cab line-up.

Toyota SA has already confirmed that the 2.4-litre four-cylinder turbodiesel will be introduced to the new Hilux double-cab range in the first quarter of 2027.

The single-cab range is expected to follow a similar route.

The 2.4-litre engine will be offered exclusively with a manual transmission.

Current range continues

The outgoing Hilux single-cab range is currently available with three powertrain options.

These include a 2.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine producing 102kW and 183Nm.

The line-up also includes a 2.4GD engine producing 110kW and 343Nm, paired with a five-speed manual gearbox.

A 2.4GD-6 version is also available, producing 110kW and 400Nm through a six-speed manual transmission.

The 2.7-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine has been discontinued for the eighth-generation Hilux.

Pricing for the new Toyota Hilux single-cab range will be revealed in the third quarter of 2026.
