Convicted murderer Rosemary Ndlovu has received another 10-year prison sentence, this time for helping plan the murder of her former colleague’s husband.
The Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court sentenced Ndlovu and former police officer Nomsa Mudau to 10 years’ direct imprisonment after finding them guilty of incitement to commit murder.
According to Gauteng National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Magaboke Mohlatlole, the case stems from a 2018 plan to kill Mudau’s husband, Justice Mudau.
Murder Plot Reported to Police
The NPA said Ndlovu approached a man who had previously been involved in the murders of her family members and asked him to assist Mudau.
Investigators established that Mudau later communicated and met with the men in Tembisa to discuss killing her husband.
According to the NPA, Mudau planned to pay them after claiming insurance benefits following his death.
The men ultimately warned Justice Mudau about the plan, and he reported it to the South African Police Service.
Ndlovu and Mudau were subsequently arrested.
Court Hands Down 10-Year Sentences
Both former police officers were sentenced to 10 years’ direct imprisonment.
During sentencing, Senior State Advocate Riana Williams argued that the offence was particularly serious because both women were police officers when the plot was planned.
The State also argued that neither had shown remorse.
The court accepted the prosecution’s case and convicted them on the incitement charge.
Ndlovu Already Serving Six Life Terms
Ndlovu is already serving six life sentences after she was convicted in 2021 of murdering five relatives and her partner for financial gain through life insurance and funeral policies.
Mohlatlole confirmed that her latest 10-year sentence will run concurrently with the sentences she is already serving.
The NPA welcomed the ruling, saying people who plan or encourage murder must be held accountable even when the intended killing is not carried out.
It also stressed that officials entrusted with enforcing the law are not above it.
