South African Police Service (SAPS) has called on National Coloured Congress (NCC) leader and MP Fadiel Adams to hand himself over following the issuance of a warrant for his arrest. The warrant relates to allegations of fraud and defeating or obstructing the course of justice in an ongoing murder investigation.

Brigadier Athlenda Mathe, national police spokesperson, confirmed police hold a J50 warrant for Adams. She said the matter involves alleged interference with investigations into the 2017 murder of former ANC Youth League leader Sindiso Magaqa.

Police Call on Fadiel Adams to Surrender

The Political Killings Task Team wants Adams to present himself at his nearest police station. Police arranged for him to surrender at Cape Town Central Police Station on Monday, 4 May 2026, but he did not appear. He also failed to attend a scheduled court appearance in KwaZulu-Natal the same day.

According to Mathe, investigators believe Adams interfered with a convicted hitman at a critical stage of the probe into Magaqa’s killing. Police say they made extensive efforts to locate him and contacted his legal representative.

Adams Claims Police Raided Wrong House

On Sunday 3 May, Adams held a media briefing at Parliament where he accused members of the Political Killings Task Team of raiding a house in Westridge, Mitchell’s Plain that he previously owned. He claims approximately 15 officers stormed the property early on Saturday without producing warrants, pointed rifles at residents, and assaulted a 12-year-old boy.

Adams said he sold the property weeks earlier and no longer lived there. He has opened a case of intimidation against SAPS and alleges the operation was linked to KZN Police Commissioner Lt Gen Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.

Counter-Allegations in Magaqa Murder Case

Adams claims he obtained a statement from the convicted hitman, Sibusiso Ncengwa, who allegedly implicated police officers in the murder. He says he tried to facilitate this information with authorities but faced resistance.

Police have not publicly responded to Adams’ specific allegations of misconduct during the raid or his claims regarding the murder investigation. Mathe urged Adams to cooperate and hand himself over without delay.
