Suzuki Auto South Africa is recalling 543 Grand Vitara vehicles after a fault was identified with the low-fuel warning system.

TimesLIVE reports that the National Consumer Commission has notified consumers about the recall, which affects vehicles sold from May 2025.

According to the recall notice, the low-fuel warning light may fail to switch on as the fuel level drops.

Fault could cause vehicle to stall

The manufacturer warned that drivers may not realise when fuel levels become critically low.

This could cause the vehicle to run out of fuel, which may lead to the engine stalling and prevent it from restarting.

Affected owners have been advised to take their vehicles to an authorised Suzuki dealership for a fuel gauge inspection.

Any corrective work linked to the recall will be carried out at no cost to the owner.

Suzuki confirms low-fuel warning feature

Suzuki South Africa’s official Grand Vitara equipment information confirms that the model is fitted with a low-fuel warning function in its instrument display.

The Grand Vitara remains on sale locally, with Suzuki currently listing pricing from R359,900.

The SUV is powered by a 1.5-litre engine, while the local range comes with a five-year or 200,000km warranty.

Owners urged to check affected vehicles

The NCC says owners with questions about the recall can contact its product recall division.

Suzuki South Africa also provides owners with online resources and dealership support for vehicle-related queries.

The recall does not affect every Grand Vitara on South African roads.

It applies specifically to the 543 vehicles identified in the recall notice and sold from May 2025.

Owners who are unsure whether their vehicle is affected should contact an authorised Suzuki dealer and have the fuel gauge system checked.
