Toyota has launched its new Land Cruiser 300 hybrid in South Africa, adding an electrified option to the flagship SUV range.

The hybrid is initially available in the luxury-focused ZX specification for R2,287,700.

A range-topping GR-Sport hybrid, priced at R2,343,800, is expected to join the local line-up later in 2026.

Toyota South Africa Motors said the ZX would eventually be offered exclusively with the hybrid powertrain. The diesel-powered GX-R and GR-Sport models will remain available.

Hybrid delivers 341kW

The new model combines a 3.5-litre twin-turbocharged V6 petrol engine with Toyota’s hybrid electric system.

Together, they produce 341kW and 790Nm, making this the most powerful Land Cruiser 300 powertrain in the range.

Power is sent to all four wheels through a 10-speed automatic transmission.

Toyota claims average fuel consumption of 10 litres per 100km. This compares with 8.9 litres per 100km for the 3.3-litre diesel and 12.1 litres per 100km for the non-hybrid V6 petrol model.

Emergency power supply included

The hybrid receives a waterproof AC inverter beneath the centre console.

It can provide up to 1,500W of external power for electrical equipment or serve as an emergency energy source.

Toyota has also refreshed the wider Land Cruiser range with colour and interior updates.

New exterior choices include Magnetite Black and Classic White.

Updated South African pricing

The Land Cruiser 300 range starts at R1,596,800 for the 3.3D GX-R.

The diesel ZX costs R2,150,400, while the petrol ZX is priced at R2,191,300.

The 3.3D GR-Sport costs R2,210,100, followed by the petrol GR-Sport at R2,247,500.

All derivatives include a three-year or 100,000km warranty and a nine-service or 90,000km service plan.

Hybrid models also receive an eight-year or 160,000km battery warranty.

Toyota vice-president of marketing Glenn Crompton said the hybrid allows buyers to combine the Land Cruiser’s established capability with modern electrified performance.
