Toyota South Africa has introduced the all-new Toyota Land Cruiser FJ to the local market. The compact 4x4 went on sale at dealerships on 18 May 2026 and is positioned as a more accessible entry point into the iconic Land Cruiser family.

Built on a modified version of the platform shared with the Hilux bakkie and Fortuner SUV, the Toyota Land Cruiser FJ combines distinctive styling with genuine off-road hardware. Early registration data shows 127 units sold in the first weeks after launch, indicating strong initial interest.

Pricing and Powertrain

The Toyota Land Cruiser FJ is offered in two specification grades. The GX model is priced at R714 000, while the higher-spec VX retails for R761 400.

Power comes from Toyota’s proven 2.7-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine. It produces 122 kW at 5 200 r/min and 245 Nm of torque at 4 000 r/min. The engine pairs with a six-speed automatic transmission that includes a low-range transfer case and part-time four-wheel drive.

Toyota lists combined-cycle fuel consumption at 10.7 L/100 km. All models come with a three-year/100 000 km warranty and a nine-service/90 000 km service plan.

Dimensions, Capability and Design

The Toyota Land Cruiser FJ measures 4 575 mm in length, 1 855 mm in width and rides on a 2 580 mm wheelbase. These dimensions make it noticeably more compact than the Land Cruiser Prado — 350 mm shorter and 125 mm narrower.

Ground clearance stands at 245 mm. The vehicle also features minimal front and rear overhangs, a rear locking differential and low-range gearing. These elements give the Toyota Land Cruiser FJ strong off-road geometry while maintaining everyday usability. The turning radius is 5.5 metres.

Styling takes clear cues from classic Land Cruiser FJ models, including bold proportions and distinctive rear design elements. Toyota South Africa describes the vehicle as bringing “the spirit of freedom, exploration and authentic adventure to a broader generation of customers.”

Inside, the cabin adopts a practical, Fortuner-style layout with a medium touchscreen, mechanical handbrake and traditional controls. Rear legroom accommodates three adults, and the cargo area offers useful capacity. The side-opening rear door with the spare wheel mounted on it improves access in confined spaces.

Initial Market Response

Industry figures show 127 units of the Toyota Land Cruiser FJ were registered shortly after its arrival on 18 May 2026. The model is already available with a range of official off-road accessories through Toyota dealerships.
