Mercedes-Benz has revealed the updated Mercedes-Maybach GLS 680, bringing more power, refreshed styling and new cabin technology.

The luxury SUV follows the global debut of the updated Mercedes-AMG GLS 63.

Mercedes-Benz has revised the GLS 680’s exterior, upgraded its interior and fitted it with a more powerful V8 engine.

The updated model remains the flagship Maybach offering in the GLS range.

V8 produces 450kW

The Mercedes-Maybach GLS 680 uses the M177 EVO 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine.

The same powertrain is also used in the updated Mercedes-AMG GLS 63.

It produces 450kW and 850Nm of torque, with maximum torque available between 2 500rpm and 4 500rpm.

The engine includes 48V mild-hybrid technology, which provides an additional 17kW and 205Nm for short periods.

Power is delivered through a nine-speed automatic transmission and Mercedes-Benz’s 4Matic+ all-wheel-drive system.

Suspension improves comfort

Mercedes-Benz has also revised the steering system.

The Maybach GLS 680 comes standard with Airmatic air suspension, which is designed to improve ride comfort and stability.

Customers can also select the optional E-Active Body Control system.

This technology actively controls the spring and damper forces to reduce body roll, pitching and lifting while driving.

Exterior receives fresh look

The updated front end includes an illuminated Mercedes-Benz star, Maybach lettering and a revised grille surround.

The flagship SUV is fitted with 22-inch alloy wheels as standard.

Optional 23-inch wheels are also available.

These feature floating centre caps that remain upright while the wheels rotate.

Cabin gains new technology

Inside, the updated GLS 680 features Mercedes-Benz’s MBUX Superscreen.

The system combines three digital displays and runs the manufacturer’s latest software.

The cabin also features rose-gold instrument dials and illuminated air vents.

Massage functionality is available across all three rows of seats, adding to the SUV’s focus on passenger comfort.

A 15-speaker Burmester 3D surround-sound system is also included.

Mercedes-Benz has not yet confirmed South African pricing or availability for the updated Mercedes-Maybach GLS 680.
