Motorists travelling through Camps Bay should prepare for delays as roadworks get underway along a section of Victoria Road this week.
The City of Cape Town plans to begin maintenance between Geneva Drive and Kloof Road on 9 October 2026, with work expected to continue until the end of November, according to Cape Town Etc.
Shoulder closures during first two weeks
The project will initially affect the road during daytime hours.
For the first two weeks, temporary shoulder closures are expected between 08:00 and 18:00 from Monday to Saturday.
After this period, construction will move to a night-time schedule.
Crews will work between 20:00 and 05:30 from Monday to Saturday, with temporary lane closures introduced while maintenance is carried out.
The City has warned motorists that traffic disruptions and delays are possible during the project.
What work will be done?
According to Cape Town Etc, the maintenance will be completed one lane at a time, allowing vehicles to continue travelling through the affected section.
Work will include repairs to damaged road surfaces and surrounding infrastructure.
Sections of kerbs and channels will be relaid, while damaged pavement will also be repaired.
Crews are also expected to replace damaged layers underneath sections of the road before resurfacing the affected areas.
City asks motorists to plan ahead
City of Cape Town Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility Councillor Rob Quintas said the project forms part of the City’s broader road maintenance programme.
The work is aimed at improving the condition of Victoria Road and providing motorists with a smoother and safer road surface.
The City has acknowledged that the construction could cause inconvenience to residents, businesses and other road users.
Motorists travelling through Camps Bay are encouraged to allow additional travelling time and take the temporary closures into account when planning their journeys.
The roadworks are currently scheduled to continue until the end of November 2026.
