Wiz Khalifa has been sentenced to nine months in a Romanian jail after a drug possession case linked to a seaside music festival performance in 2024.

The Constanța Court of Appeal delivered the nine-month sentence on Thursday, December 18, 2025. The ruling relates to a July 2024 incident in Costinești, a coastal resort in Constanța County, where the rapper was performing at the Beach, Please! Festival.

Authorities alleged he had more than 18 grams of cannabis and that he consumed some on stage during the set.

From Fine to Prison After Prosecutors Appeal

The sentence followed an appeal process after an earlier punishment handed down in Constanța County. In April 2025, a lower court issued a criminal fine of 3,600 lei. Prosecutors appealed and sought a tougher outcome, which led to the nine-month jail term being confirmed by the appeal court.

In the court’s written reasoning, judges said the sentence was meant to set an example, arguing that the public nature of the incident could normalise illegal drug use, especially among young people.

Wiz Khalifa’s Team is Appealing

Wiz Khalifa’s team is now appealing the nine-month sentence, according to reporting published on December 18, 2025.

The same report says he was arrested and briefly held after the July 2024 performance, then released while the legal process continued.

Because Wiz Khalifa is a US citizen and does not live in Romania, it remains unclear whether Romanian authorities will seek an extradition request.
