Best Before has expanded its online shopping service to include nationwide courier delivery, giving shoppers across South Africa access to its discounted groceries and personal care products. The retailer says the rollout builds on demand for cheaper everyday essentials as household budgets stay tight.
A Discount Model Built Around Short-Dated Stock
Best Before sells short-dated and past best-before goods at marked-down prices. It says it does not sell anything past its use-by date, and that its products come from “trusted and reputable suppliers” with strict quality control.
The business was founded in 2017 by Mark Gordon and Alain Soriano. They launched a pilot store in Wendywood in Sandton, and the concept quickly took off. The founders then expanded supplier partnerships and pushed into more parts of Gauteng.
From Gauteng Stores to a Wider Footprint
After early success, Best Before opened additional stores in Johannesburg including Woodmead, Edenvale, Fourways, Northcliff, Krugersdorp and Boksburg. The retailer also expanded into Pretoria, opening a store at Atterbury Lifestyle Centre in October 2024 and another at Centurion Lifestyle Centre on 29 August 2025. Best Before’s management said the Centurion store was one of the group’s largest and attracted thousands of shoppers in its first few days.
How Nationwide Delivery and Collections Work
Best Before says nationwide courier delivery is available through its online shopping portal. Shoppers can also choose a collect option at checkout by selecting “collect from store”. The retailer says collections and in-store transfers can take up to five working days to prepare, and customers will be notified when orders are ready for pickup.
