Murder-accused cricketer Tristan Perez is scheduled to appear in the Wynberg Magistrates Court on Thursday to apply for bail.
The 24-year-old is charged with the murder of his 46-year-old girlfriend, Elana Brooke, in Heathfield on 23 March 2026. Initial reports suggested Brooke’s death was a suicide, but after further investigation, police upgraded the case to a murder investigation.
Speaking on behalf of the family, Brooke’s ex-husband and spokesperson, David Brooke, thanked the public for their support in the aftermath of the tragedy. “The family would like to thank everyone who has reached out with messages of support, condolences and shared memories of our beloved and full of life Elana,” he said.

He added that the family has confidence in the authorities to ensure justice is served. “The matter is now a criminal investigation, and we have full confidence in the South African Police Service and the judicial system to ensure that justice is served,” David Brooke said.
The family has also urged the public to avoid spreading false or unverified information on social media, emphasizing the need for respect and privacy during the investigation.
Perez’s bail application will take place amid heightened public attention, as the case has drawn national interest due to the circumstances surrounding Brooke’s death and Perez’s profile as a local sports figure. Authorities have urged anyone with information about the incident to come forward and assist the investigation.
