Grammy Award-winning rapper Megan Thee Stallion is heading to Broadway.
The Houston-born artist will make her stage debut in Moulin Rouge! The Musical from March 24 to May 17, stepping into the role of Zidler in the Tony Award-winning production. With the casting, she becomes the first woman to portray the character in the show’s history.
Zidler, originally Harold Zidler, is the flamboyant impresario of the famed Parisian nightclub at the centre of the story. Serving as both narrator and ringmaster, the character guides audiences through the spectacle, romance and drama that define Moulin Rouge!. Traditionally played by male actors, the role is known for its theatricality, sharp humour and commanding presence.
Megan Thee Stallion, born Megan Pete, has built an international career on performance-driven artistry. With multiple Grammy Awards and a catalogue of chart-topping hits, she has become one of the most recognisable figures in contemporary hip-hop. Her move to Broadway marks a significant expansion of her creative portfolio.
The casting reflects a growing trend of cross-industry collaboration, with music stars increasingly stepping into film, television and theatre. For Broadway, the limited engagement is expected to attract both dedicated theatre audiences and Megan’s global fanbase.
As Moulin Rouge! The Musical continues its successful run, Megan’s debut signals a milestone moment for both the production and the artist, underscoring her status as a multifaceted force in modern entertainment.
