A 59-year-old man from Oudtshoorn now faces life behind bars after a devastating betrayal of trust. He repeatedly raped his own daughter over two years beginning when she was only 13.

The Abuse Begins

The victim had moved in with her father and his wife after efforts to reconcile the family. The abuse started when his wife left for work. He indecently touched her then raped her multiple times eventually causing her to fall pregnant.

She shared what happened with her mother during weekend visits. Her mother took her to a doctor and the pregnancy was later terminated at a hospital.

The father insisted the acts were consensual. Evidence showed otherwise proving the assaults were deliberate and repeated.

Guilty Plea and Court Proceedings

In the Oudtshoorn Regional Court the man initially intended to plead guilty but changed lawyers causing delays. He eventually admitted guilt on charges of rape sexual violation and incest.

The prosecutor described him as a wolf in sheep’s clothing highlighting how he exploited his position of trust. The victim’s mother expressed deep frustration that past failures in the justice system allowed this horror to happen again.

Severe Sentence Handed Down

The court imposed life imprisonment for the rape 10 years concurrent for sexual violation and 20 years for incest to run separately. His name will be added to the National Sex Offenders Register. He is declared unfit to work with children or possess a firearm.

This outcome reflects the gravity of the crimes and the calculated nature of the abuse. The lack of genuine remorse from the perpetrator made a strong impression on the court.
