A safety recall has been issued for 1,393 Renault Kwid vehicles in South Africa. The National Consumer Commission (NCC) said it received a notification from Motus Vehicle Distributor, the importer responsible for bringing the vehicles into the country.
The recall affects five-seater passenger Renault Kwid models that were distributed and sold nationwide from 20 January 2026.
What the Fault is and Why it Matters
Motus told the NCC the affected vehicles may display a warning light on the dashboard. The company linked this to sensitivity in the Kwid’s velocity calculation system.
If the issue is not addressed, it could affect overall system performance. The NCC has warned that this could pose a potential safety risk, which is why the recall has been issued.
What Motus Says it Will Do
Motus has indicated that none of the affected vehicles have been delivered to customers yet. That means the recall is being handled before the cars reach drivers, which is the best-case scenario for a safety notice like this.
The company said it will complete the required software update before the vehicles are released to consumers.
What Drivers and Buyers Should Do Now
If you have recently bought a new Renault Kwid, or you are in the process of buying one, the practical move is simple: confirm with the dealership whether your vehicle is part of the affected batch and whether the software update has been completed.
Recalls can sound dramatic, but they are often preventative. In this case, the goal is to resolve a software-related warning and performance risk before any affected vehicles end up on the road.
