Sassa has ended weeks of uncertainty for millions of social grant beneficiaries. The agency confirmed the Sassa April 2026 payment dates on Monday after National Treasury approved the schedule on 20 March 2026.
Recipients will also collect higher amounts this month following the 2026 national budget announcements. Sassa administers more than 19 million grants monthly and staggers payments to keep systems running smoothly.
Confirmed Sassa April 2026 Payment Dates
Sassa releases the Sassa April 2026 payment dates to help beneficiaries plan ahead. The agency follows a clear principle: pay grants as early as possible while staggering them over three days.
Older Persons Grant beneficiaries receive their money on Thursday, 2 April 2026. Disability Grant payments follow on Tuesday, 7 April 2026. Children’s Grants become available on Wednesday, 8 April 2026.
New Grant Amounts Take Effect This Month
The increases stem directly from Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana’s 2026 national budget speech. Government raised most grants to ease pressure on households.
Old Age Grant (60-74 years) and Disability Grant now stand at R2 400. Old Age Grant (75 years and older) also rises to R2 400. War Veterans Grant moves to R2 420, Care Dependency Grant reaches R2 400, Foster Care Grant increases to R1 290 and Child Support Grant rises to R580.
Sassa works with National Treasury to finalise these changes and ensure timely payments.
Why Dates Shift and What Beneficiaries Should Know
Sassa avoids paying grants on weekends, public holidays, the 1st of the month or certain Mondays. This rule explains why disability and children’s grants fall later in the first week of April.
The agency states:
“The general principle for determining the grant payment dates for social grants is to ensure they are paid as early in the month as possible, staggered over three days.”
Responses and Advice from Sassa
Sassa urges beneficiaries who do not receive their grants on the scheduled dates to act quickly. The agency says it remains committed to on-time payments and appeals to anyone affected to visit their nearest Sassa local office for assistance.
No other official reactions were issued at the time of publication. Sassa did not respond to further queries beyond its public statement.
