South African singer Tyla has won her second Grammy Award, taking Best African Music Performance at the 68th Annual Grammy Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday, 1 February 2026.

She won for ‘Push 2 Start’, a track from the deluxe edition of her self-titled debut album. Reports also state she is the first artist to win Best African Music Performance twice, after winning the same category in 2024 for ‘Water’.

Why ‘Push 2 Start’ is Such a Big Deal

‘Push 2 Start’ has been one of Tyla’s biggest global songs, with reported massive streaming numbers across platforms. The track has also been boosted by a remix featuring Sean Paul, widening its reach beyond her core fanbase.

For South African fans, the win hits even harder because it shows a local artist can dominate a category built for African music, and do it more than once.

A Strong Field in the Category

Tyla beat a stacked group of nominees in the Best African Music Performance category, winning ahead of Burna Boy for ‘Love’, Davido featuring Omah Lay for ‘With You’, Ayra Starr featuring Wizkid for ‘Gimme Dat’, and Eddy Kenzo and Mehran Matin for ‘Hope and Love’.

From Edenvale to a Global Stage

Tyla, born Tyla Seethal in Edenvale in Johannesburg’s East Rand, has rapidly moved from breakout star to global name. Her sound blends amapiano influence with pop, and the latest Grammy win strengthens her position as one of South Africa’s biggest music exports right now.

She now joins a short list of South Africans connected to Grammy success, including Miriam Makeba, Black Coffee and Zakes Bantwini.
