A 30-year-old woman has been arrested in connection with an alleged human trafficking investigation involving a 21-year-old woman who was rescued from a brothel in Rondebosch, Cape Town.
According to CapeTownEtc, the suspect was arrested on Monday, 12 October, after an investigation by Hawks teams based in George and Bellville. A warrant had reportedly been issued for her arrest over her alleged involvement in the case.
Woman rescued during Rondebosch operation
The investigation began in August 2026 when the Hawks and the Department of Home Affairs searched an identified brothel in Rondebosch.
Officials found a 21-year-old woman working as a sex worker at the premises. Further investigation allegedly indicated that she was a victim of human trafficking and authorities removed her from the situation.
CapeTownEtc reported that investigators later identified a man suspected of trafficking the woman. He was arrested and identified as Philip Udogwu.
First suspect remains in custody
Udogwu appeared in the Wynberg Magistrates’ Court on 21 September 2026.
He remains in custody while waiting for his formal bail application, according to the report.
Investigators also allege that Udogwu had an accomplice who helped groom the 21-year-old woman into becoming a sex worker.
The arrest of the 30-year-old woman is linked to those allegations. Authorities have not released further details about her alleged role in the case.
Suspect expected in court
The woman was expected to make her first appearance in the Wynberg Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 13 October.
The case forms part of the Hawks’ ongoing investigation into the alleged trafficking of the young woman.
The allegations against the suspects have not been proven in court and they are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
CapeTownEtc first reported details of the latest arrest and the investigation on 13 October 2026.
