BMW has revealed the BMW M Concept Neue Klasse at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, giving the clearest public sign yet of how its M division plans to enter the high-performance electric sedan era.

The concept previews future electric BMW M models with four electric motors, 800-volt technology and a high-voltage battery with more than 100kWh of energy content. BMW has not confirmed power figures, range, pricing or a launch date for a production version.

BMW M Concept Neue Klasse brings four-motor power

According to BMW Group, the BMW M Concept Neue Klasse uses a new BMW M eDrive system based on Neue Klasse Gen6 technology. The setup combines four electric motors with BMW M Dynamic Performance Control, managed through the company’s “Heart of Joy” high-performance computer.

BMW says the system allows wheel-specific control of the drivetrain and braking systems. As a result, the brand claims it can improve traction, response, recuperation and driving safety.

The concept also uses an 800-volt electrical architecture and a battery with more than 100kWh of energy content. BMW says its M-specific cylindrical cells have been optimised for high output during both power delivery and charging.

However, BMW has not released an official power output. Autocar reported that the future electric M3 could produce around 1,000bhp, but that figure remains unofficial.

Le Mans reveal points to BMW M’s electric future

The BMW M Concept Neue Klasse was shown during the Le Mans 24 Hours weekend. BMW described the car as a preview of the design language for future high-performance M models.

The body takes cues from the new BMW i3 sedan but adds wider arches, a more aggressive stance and functional aerodynamic parts. Key elements include a front splitter, V-shaped bonnet outlet, M-specific aero mirrors, floating rear diffuser and ducktail spoiler.

BMW also introduced M Yellow Lights inspired by GT racing cars and the BMW M Hybrid V8. The concept’s shark-nose front end and prominent aero details aim to link the electric sedan with BMW M’s motorsport heritage.

Interior keeps the focus on the driver

Inside, the BMW M Concept Neue Klasse uses a minimalist, driver-focused cockpit. BMW says the floating dashboard is finished in black knit material and features M-specific hexagonal backlighting.

The cabin has four newly developed bucket seats with natural-fibre structural elements. They are trimmed in two-tone Merino leather in Bathurst Blue and Berry Red, colours that echo BMW M’s identity.

BMW M chairperson Franciscus van Meel said the brand would continue bringing “technological innovations and defining design features directly from motorsport into series production” in the electric era.
