A Cape Flats drug bust under Operation Prosper has allegedly led to the seizure of mandrax tablets worth about R2.76 million in Delft, according to Daily Voice. The report says the breakthrough followed a vehicle stop in N2 Gateway that led police to a storage facility in Stikland, Bellville.

In a separate case on Tuesday, police also arrested a 51-year-old man in Milnerton after finding 1,000 mandrax tablets, the publication reported. The operations come as law enforcement intensifies anti-crime patrols in the Western Cape under Operation Prosper.

According to Daily Voice, police stopped and searched a silver Honda Civic in Buczane Street, N2 Gateway, Delft on Monday, 20 April 2026. The report says officers found 10 mandrax tablets and cash believed to be the proceeds of crime in the vehicle. Police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk, quoted by the publication, said the stop led investigators to a storage facility in Stikland, Bellville.

At that facility, police allegedly found 46 packs containing 1,000 mandrax tablets each, for a total of 46,000 tablets. Daily Voice reported the estimated street value at R2.76 million. The publication said the 45-year-old suspect was expected to appear in the Bellville Magistrate’s Court once charged.

Operation Prosper adds broader anti-crime context

This Cape Flats drug bust took place against the backdrop of Operation Prosper, a national anti-crime intervention that includes the deployment of the South African National Defence Force in support of SAPS. The Presidency said 2,200 SANDF members were authorised for service with police from 1 March 2026 until 31 March 2027, while SAnews reported that the operation targets crime hotspots linked to gang violence and other serious offences.

That context matters in the Western Cape, where police and soldiers have stepped up patrols, roadblocks and targeted searches in high-risk communities. However, the specific Delft and Milnerton drug cases cited here were, at the time of writing, only directly detailed in the Daily Voice report.

Milnerton arrest adds to mandrax seizures

Daily Voice also reported that members of the Anti-Economic Crime Task Team and the Counterfeit and Illicit Goods Policing Team arrested a 51-year-old man at a Milnerton address on Tuesday, 21 April 2026. Police spokesperson Thembakazi Mpendukana, as quoted by the publication, said officers acted on information about suspected drug activity and found 1,000 mandrax tablets.

The suspect was detained at Milnerton SAPS and was expected to make his first appearance in the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court once charged, according to the report. Newsroom could not independently verify further court details by publication time.
