A 44-year-old man accused of killing four men in Dunoon is expected to appear in the Cape Town Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 7 September.

The suspect faces four counts of murder after the victims were found near the N7 off-ramp to Malibongwe Drive on 23 August.

Police said the men had been assaulted and set alight.

Suspect traced after police investigation

According to SAPS, detectives from the Western Cape Provincial Serious Violent Crime Unit arrested the man late on Thursday, 3 September.

The Tactical Response Team assisted with the operation.

Police said information gathered during the investigation led officers to a person of interest. The suspect was arrested in Dunoon at about 11:30 pm.

The arrest came nearly two weeks after police were called to the scene where the four bodies were discovered.

Officers had responded to the area at about 1:30 pm on 23 August following reports of the attack.

Motive still not confirmed

Police have not publicly confirmed what led to the killings.

SAPS is also still investigating whether other people were involved in the incident.

There have been claims that the four men may have been targeted in a vigilante attack, but police have not independently confirmed that version of events.

Western Cape Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General SW Dyantyi welcomed the arrest and described the way the victims died as deeply concerning.

He said investigators remained committed to finding those responsible for violent crimes.

Police appeal for information

The court appearance will mark the next stage in the case as detectives continue trying to establish the full circumstances surrounding the deaths.

No further suspects had been confirmed in the information provided by police.

SAPS has appealed to members of the public who may know more about the killings to assist investigators.
