Ford has recalled 2,275 Ranger Double Cab bakkies over a potential problem involving the vehicles’ side-curtain airbags.

The National Consumer Commission said the recall affects Ford Ranger Double Cab models produced for the 2026–2027 production year.

The affected vehicles were sold through Ford dealerships across South Africa between 22 May and 23 June 2026. Some were also exported to Namibia, Botswana, Lesotho and Eswatini.

Airbag fault could cause injury

According to the commission, the side-curtain airbags in affected Rangers may interact with the B-pillar trim while inflating.

This could prevent the airbags from deploying as intended.

The commission said the B-pillar ramp could also detach when the side-curtain airbag deploys and become a projectile inside the vehicle.

The fault could increase the risk of injury to occupants during an airbag deployment.

Owners urged to contact Ford

Affected owners have been advised to contact their nearest authorised Ford dealership without delay.

Vehicles included in the recall will be inspected and any necessary remedial work will be carried out at no cost to the consumer.

Acting National Consumer Commissioner Hardin Ratshisusu described the problem as involving a safety-critical component and urged owners and users of affected Rangers to act promptly.

The commission said it would monitor the recall to ensure affected vehicles in South Africa are attended to.

Recall affects Double Cab models

The recall specifically covers 2,275 Ford Ranger Double Cab vehicles within the affected production period.

Owners who are uncertain whether their vehicle is included can contact Ford or an authorised dealership for confirmation and further instructions.

The recall does not mean every affected vehicle has experienced an airbag failure. It is a preventative safety measure addressing the identified risk involving the side-curtain airbag and B-pillar trim.

Drivers of affected vehicles are being encouraged to arrange an inspection as soon as possible rather than waiting for a problem to occur.
