A Gugulethu household was left shaken after a Golden Arrow bus crashed into a residential yard on Saturday.
According to Cape Argus, the Gugulethu bus crash reportedly happened near the corner of NY3 and NY4. Images and video shared on social media showed the bus partly inside the yard, raising concern among residents about road safety in the area.
SAPS confirms no injuries in Gugulethu bus crash
Western Cape police spokesperson Captain F.C. Van Wyk confirmed that no injuries were reported after the incident.
“An accident report was registered at Gugulethu SAPS. No injuries were reported,” Van Wyk told Daily Voice, according to Cape Argus.
The cause of the Gugulethu bus crash has not yet been confirmed. Cape Argus reported that Daily Voice had not received a response from Golden Arrow Bus Services by its Sunday deadline.
Golden Arrow is one of Cape Town’s major bus operators. Its website says the company operates more than 1,000 buses across over 1,300 routes, serving thousands of commuters daily.
Heavy vehicles hit Cape homes in separate incidents
The Gugulethu bus crash came just days after another heavy vehicle struck a home in Cape Town.
On Thursday, a container truck crashed into the kitchen of a house in Bothasig. Cape Argus reported that one person was injured in that incident, while the occupants of the home were left shaken.
The Bothasig crash happened near Bosmansdam and Ocean Spirit Avenue. Video from the scene reportedly showed the truck moving near a MyCiTi bus before it hit another vehicle and crashed into the house.
Homeowner Frank Samunda told Cape Argus he and colleagues were in the kitchen when they heard a loud noise. He said the truck smashed through the walls and kitchen door, leaving everyone shocked.
Authorities and operators yet to give full details
In the Bothasig case, Councillor Rob Quintas, the City of Cape Town’s mayoral committee member for urban mobility, said the City was investigating the circumstances before giving further comment.
For the Gugulethu bus crash, police have confirmed the accident report and the absence of injuries. However, no official explanation for how the bus entered the yard had been confirmed at the time of publication.
Residents and commuters will now wait for any further updates from police, Golden Arrow Bus Services, or transport authorities. Until then, the confirmed facts remain limited to the accident report, the location, and SAPS’ confirmation that nobody was hurt.
