The Ntombi Ntsondwa murder case has sent shockwaves through Mbekweni after the 26-year-old woman was found dead at her boyfriend’s home in Drommedaris, Paarl. Police have confirmed that an adult male suspect was arrested and was expected to appear in the Paarl Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.
According to Cape Argus and a matching IOL report, Ntsondwa was discovered on Monday, 13 April 2026, at about 12:30 at a home in Dumisani Street, Drommedaris, Mbekweni. Police said she had multiple stab wounds to her forehead and arms.
Police confirm arrest in Ntombi Ntsondwa murder
Police spokesperson Constable Ndakhe Gwala said officers arrested an adult male in connection with the Ntombi Ntsondwa murder. The reports say the suspect was later found in Aberdeen after community members searched for him when he could not be reached.
Family members told reporters they were struggling to process the death. Community members who entered the house said they found Ntsondwa lying on her back, and residents then began looking for the accused before going to police.
Family recounts troubled relationship before killing
A close relative said Ntsondwa had previously been staying with the accused, then returned home after the couple faced difficulties. The same relative said the pair later reconciled and Ntsondwa moved back in.
Family members also said Ntsondwa and the accused share a five-year-old child, who was at school when the incident happened. Police said the motive remains under investigation.
Response and wider context
The Ntombi Ntsondwa murder comes amid continued concern over gender-based violence and femicide in South Africa. The Presidency’s SONA 2026 information page says the National Council on Gender-Based Violence and Femicide Bill was signed into law on 24 May 2024, while Acting Minister Firoz Cachalia said in February 2026 that much interpersonal and domestic violence happens between people who live together or know each other.
As of Wednesday morning, public reporting confirmed the expected Paarl court appearance, but no outcome had yet been independently verified. That means the next confirmed development in the Ntombi Ntsondwa murder case is likely to come from court proceedings or a further police update.
